Cryoablation as Salvage Therapy for Recurrent Prostate Cancer

Cryosurgery was first used to treat prostate cancer in the early 1970s. Sine then, changes in equipment and techniques have improved the results of cryosurgery, in both tumor control and lower morbidity. Selenium cuts prostate risk

Some 40,000 men die every year from prostate cancer, but a new study says what a man eats may help prevent the disease. The study, published by the National Cancer Institute, found men who had the highest intakes of the mineral selenium cut their cancer rates by one-half to two-thirds compared to men with the lowest intakes of selenium. "The notion that vitamins and minerals might prevent prostate cancer is a particularly exciting thing," said Dr. Philip Taylor of the National Cancer Institute. Selenium is found in fish, meats, grains and seeds in varying amounts. But it is also available in supplements. Mineral selenium cuts risk of prostate cancer

Prostate cancer: the culprit - obesity

American researchers have apparently established a close link between obesity and death due to prostate cancer. An excessively high body mass index (BMI) does not cause this disease, but it does aggravate it. For the record, this index is calculated by dividing weight in kilos by height in metres squared. It should stand at between 20 and 25 for adults in good health. Between 25 and 30 it indicates excess weight, and over 30, obesity.   -- Prostate cancer: the culprit - obesity
